There is a wide variety of mobile devices (running into the thousands) which need individual designs. It is not possible to manage the breadth of these devices for mobile web sites.
However, the four key mobile operating systems can be catered for properly with reduced functionality provided on less well known devices. As the number of devices increases for accessing the internet: PCs, Tablets, Mobiles, Smart TVs, gaming consoles etc, it can be difficult to judge where to draw the support line.
By the judicious use of HTML5 and CSS3 it is possible to manage the delivery of at least the web site, the mobile web site and applications from a single source.
