One very effective method of delivery that we have found is to compartmentalise a set of work packages and have the entire package delivered through an off-site service. This allows for much better coherence in the design of the application, fewer integration issues and much faster turn-round time.
By taking this approach, on one occasion we managed to deliver two large applications in the time that it would have taken to deliver one application on site. Wear and tear on staff was reduced, expenses were drastically reduced, quality of build was higher.
The development staff maintained constant contact with the client with the ability to remotely demonstrate incremental improvements in functionality. Development staff were also on hand to deploy the application on site and manage the implementation. This allowed for a very successful delivery.
